No reflection on the Scriptures tonight. I just want to thank God for my most recent
blessing. “Blessing” is the mild word
for what I consider a miracle. It is a
miracle, but to most of the world it wouldn’t be considered such, because it’s
not going to be documented anywhere or used in the beatification cause of any
future saints. But I assure you, it is a
miracle nonetheless. A miracle brought
about by prayer.
As I wrote last Wednesday, I was hit by a sledge hammer
to the knee, then later in the afternoon I smashed my finger. On top of that, I was already miserable with
a back pain so bad I couldn’t bend over to tie my shoes!
On Thursday, when I got up out of bed I felt
different. It was a feeling I hadn’t
experienced for quite a while. I couldn’t
quite place my finger on it. I took my
shower and got dressed. As I bent over
to tie my shoes, it hit me! My back pain
was gone! I was able to bend over and
tie my shoes without the pain ripping from my lower back all the way to my
toes! In fact, I could touch my
toes! Being a little “tummy challenged”,
I had to bend my knees as well, but still—I could bend at the waist, something
I haven’t been able to do in a couple of years!
But wait! There’s more! My knees didn’t hurt either, not even the
knee that was in excruciating pain just the day before. There wasn’t even a bruise. And the finger I had smashed? No pain.
Like nothing ever happened. When
I got home on Friday night and showed Marilyn and Alicia how I could bend and
not have to grunt or moan to get back up, they were pretty surprised, too.
Because it’s my birthday on Tuesday the 15th,
we decided we would see a movie ("Puss in Boots"--I really enjoyed it!) and the family could take me to dinner
today. We thought today was the better
day because Alicia had to work yesterday, and I wanted both of my daughters to
be with me to celebrate. So that meant going to
Mass last night and giving Mom the Eucharist then, as well. Instead of spending Sunday with Mom, I just
spent Saturday, instead.
Oh, yeah. I guess
I should finish my story about the miracle.
When I showed Mom how I could bend over without pain, she couldn’t
believe it! The previous Sunday I was
obviously in such pain that she was worried about me. I said, “Don’t worry! I have friends in ‘high
places!’’’ Of course, being my mother,
she reminded me not to get too cocky and remember to thank God for my
well-being. And then she told me that
there were lots of people praying for me since Wednesday, just after I was hit
with the sledge hammer, even though no
one knew about it yet!
On Wednesdays, Mom has a woman (Thelma) who visits her and
gives her Holy Communion. For those
unfamiliar with pastoral care, there is an actual ‘rite’ that is like a “Communion
Service” (a Mass without a priest where previously consecrated Hosts are used
for Communion) but usually just one-on-one.
During the service on Wednesday, Thelma asked Mom if there was anyone
special she wanted to pray for. Out of
the blue, Mom said, my name came to her as if the Holy Spirit were prompting
her. Thelma agreed with her choice,
because she had seen me at Mass the previous Sunday and was aware of my back
difficulties. Thelma said she would have
the Legion of Mary pray for me, as well. I want to thank all of those who
prayed for me and ask that they continue to do so—you know, sanctifying grace
and all that goes with it is much appreciated.
I am writing this testimony because I am being led by
what I believe is the Holy Spirit to testify to the Goodness and Mercy of our
Lord Jesus Christ. I am reminded of the
gospel of Luke (Luke 17:11-19).
And, for the record, this is not
the first healing Jesus has granted me.
Read my very first post of this blog.
Glory be to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit! As it was in the beginning, is now and shall
be forever! Amen.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us now and at the hour of our death. |
My prayer intentions for today are for an increase in faith and
confidence in the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ among all people of good will.
