When he was at table with them, he took the bread. He blessed the bread, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him!(Luke 24:13-35)

Re-gifting is a good thing sometimes

May the souls of the FAITHFUL departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen

Intentions for Wednesday, November 2, 2011
Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Pray for us who have recourse to thee!

Pray today for all the faithful departed.

Reflection

Yesterday, we celebrated the lives of those we know are in Heaven.  Today the Catholic Church celebrates the “Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed”.  Most of us call it All Soul’s Day. I rather like the “official” designation.

Both of these celebrations lift up my soul, as they bring to mind that all of humankind is a “Community of Saints” created to love God and one another.

November is here and many folks begin to think about Christmas gifts. I have heard of some people who still have gifts from last year that perhaps they will re-gift to another person this year.  In this economy, I wouldn’t hold it against them.  Besides, some gifts just beg to be passed on to another, usually because they are not exactly what we want or need.
Others beg to be passed on because they are meant to be shared. For instance, the gift of faith is most precious. It is a gift that we treasure and rather than leaving it unwrapped in a bag for emergencies, it is a gift that we can give every day to others and yet still rely on it for ourselves. It is a gift that can deepen and become more special with time.

In the gospel for today’s commemoration, Christ assures us that if we trust and have faith in Him, He will raise us up on the Last Day. (John 6:40) What a promise to remember as we start each day! He will raise us up to be with those who passed that precious gift of faith on to us!

Are we passing that precious gift on to others?
