When he was at table with them, he took the bread. He blessed the bread, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him!(Luke 24:13-35)

A time and a place for everything

God chooses the time and the place for everything. Until the time came, no matter what Jesus did, those plotting against Him could gain no ground. The people were gathered, hanging on every word. He could not be separated from those who were hungry to hear the Word. "They could find no way to accomplish their purpose. . . ." (Luke 19:48)

So it is today - those who are hungry for Jesus cannot be separated from Him. Those who hang on every word cannot be taken by those scheming again them. The plotters have changed as have those who are plotted against, but still God determines the time and the place that is right for each person. God determines the nature of the stand that they must take. And God is present when that stand must be taken.

No matter what the plotters and schemers do, they cannot prevail against the person who is hanging on every word that Jesus speaks. They have no influence. They may imprison or even murder, but God is there to save - always.

Think of a high and a low point in your last twenty-four hours.  Of these, in which did God appear more prevalently in your thoughts?  Did you blame Him for the difficulties or did you give Him praise for your prosperity?  In too many cases, we think about God when we need a scapegoat for life’s trials and tribulations.

God is always present in our lives and we must acknowledge His presence through praising Him.  In the First book of Maccabees (4:36-37, 52-59), we see the congregation of Israel falling upon their knees to give thanks and praise to God following their victory over the Gentiles.  When have we actually gotten on our knees to thank Him?  This may appear abnormal in today’s society, but there is a multitude of ways that we can show thanks and praise to God and most do not require kneeling.

Let’s do away with the sarcastic “Thank God” and actually give thanks.  If our alarm clocks woke us up this morning, let us give thanks.  If we have the ability to read this, let's give thanks.  We are blessed with life so give thanks.

O Almighty Father,

Your justice is strong and Your mercy is great; strengthen us through the challenges of life to emerge cleansed, purified and wholly faithful to Your Word.  Amen.

Today, I pray for the intentions of the Pope, the bishops, and the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.
Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
