When he was at table with them, he took the bread. He blessed the bread, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him!(Luke 24:13-35)

"For I am with you...

Haggai 2:1-9
Psalm 43:1, 2, 3, 4
Luke 9:18-22

How does He do that? Every time I start to get discouraged by the current state of affairs in the world, He knows just what to say:

"For I am with you, says the Lord of hosts.
And my Spirit continues in your midst;
I will shake all the nations,
and the treasures of all the nations will come in,
And I will fill this house with glory . . . ."
To be sure, our free will has its effect—and it seems as though we’re doing our best (or is it worst?) to exercise it—but God has the final say and He has spoken it loud and clear.

"Greater will be the future glory of this house
than the former, says the Lord of hosts;
And in this place I will give you peace,
says the Lord of hosts!" (Haggai 2:9)

Now that’s reason for genuine optimism! Gee, I feel better already!

"Hope in God; I will praise Him, my Savior and my God."
(the response to Psalm 43)
