When he was at table with them, he took the bread. He blessed the bread, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him!(Luke 24:13-35)

Teaching with authority

1 Thessalonian 5:1-6, 9-11
Psalm 27:1, 4, 13-14
Luke 4:31-37

When Jesus taught He spoke with authority. He spoke the word of God as no one had spoken it before. When the Rabbis taught they supported their statements with quotes from other authorities. The prophets spoke with delegated authority --" Thus says the Lord". When Jesus spoke He needed no authorities to back His statements. He was authority incarnate -- the Word of God made flesh. When He spoke, God spoke. When He commanded even the demons obeyed.

If we approach God's word submissively, with an eagerness to do everything the Lord desires, we are in a much better position to learn what God wants to teach us through His word.

I think in a way, this is what I am doing by answering His call to me to be a Eucharistic Minister. For a while there, I was wondering what was happening because I had only been invited once to observe while another minister performed the duties. Then I couldn't reach her anymore, nor the deacon-- and Father Brandon has been on vacation. So in prayer I asked God to let me know if He still wanted me to make sure that He was made present to those who could not come to Him, and the next day, the deacon called me to see why I hadn't called!--As it turns out, I had a wrong phone number and email address for him!

Anyway, we got that straightened out, I've made a few more supervised visits and I got my hospital clearance and volunteer name badge today. I am scheduled to make my first unaccompanied visit to the hospital on the 12th of September. I am assuming that there is a special "commission" prayer that I will need before I go. I'll trust that Jesus will let me know through Deacon Karl. I bought a very nice pyx today and I'm excited to be helping Our Lord in a way that I hope is pleasing to Him.
