When he was at table with them, he took the bread. He blessed the bread, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him!(Luke 24:13-35)

Why would anyone reject His peace?

Hey, Mom. With my new blog layout, comments should be easier. It's not going to ask you for verification or anything, supposedly. Let me know, OK?

=====================================================
Kind of a quick thought on today's Gospel, because I got a late start on the blog tonight and I was up late last night with insomnia, so I'm really tired.

Mt 10:7-15
Jesus said to his Apostles: "As you go, make this proclamation: 'The Kingdom of heaven is at hand. 'Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give. Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep. Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave. As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you. Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet. Amen, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town."

For the last couple of days, the readings have been telling of God's boundless patience and mercy to Jacob and his sons. They recieved His mercy and love because of their willingness to at least LISTEN to Him. In the Gospel today, I think He's telling us that while He is merciful and loving towards all of us by His Nature, He won't force that mercy and love upon us if we don't want it. I think the way He tells His Apostles, "As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you.", He is letting off a little steam at those who continually reject His offers of mercy and love. It's like having the last two tickets to a big ball game and you want to invite a friend, and the friend says, "No, thanks, I'd rather go with someone else!" Your first reaction would be, "Are you sure you don't want to go?" If the friend refused a second time your answer would be, "OK, screw it! I'll find someone who WANTS to share in my good fortune!"
